getit local

social media content creation

case study

mockup-of-two-black-iphones-xr-floating-

This is a social media build I created for Getit Local, an Ottawa-based food delivery app, through Xactly Design & Advertising. We would start our social builds a month in advance, and I interacted with them both as a designer and a social media manager. My first step would be to accumulate a list of relevant holidays and important dates/events for the upcoming month. In this case that was for July 2021, and I began compiling it as soon as the scheduling of June was completed. That list alongside goals provided by the client would be used to create the strategy for the month, which the writers would create captions based on. When the writers were finished it was then passed on to the designers. Our focus as designers was to create posts that matched the content, the existing brand/colour scheme, and to create visual interest for anyone who might stumble upon our page.

I always loved doing work for Getit Local, not only because I love their ethical business model, but because I love their brand. Their tone of voice is very friendly and casual, their builds always allowed for a combination of illustrations, photography, and playful graphics. Here's an example of one of those:

For this post highlighting three of their popular restaurants I created a carousel that when scrolled through on Instagram it feels like you're following the arrow. One small challenge that this build came. with was a handful of IGTV videos the client wanted to share.

The videos we were provided would've had automatic thumbnails that would have stood out like a sore thumb compared to the rest of the design, so I had to create custom thumbnails for each. Because of the way Instagram displays IGTV videos they had to look good both in portrait and square ratios (both of which you can see above). As carefully as we would plan these builds the month ahead, there were inevitably "drop-in" posts that would come up. These were usually last-minute requests that the client wanted posted day-of, and would require a designer to quickly create a graphic for. Here's a few drop-in posts that I created for Getit Local in past months.
